Over 900 HBCU, History Black College or University, students applied to attend Spotify's 2017 "The Opening Act" Conference in an essay or video formatted submissions. While only 85 out of those 900 were chosen, I was the only student from South Carolina State University to attend this life-changing event. In this video Spotify employees go into further detail about the event and what role it plays in the lives of students and for the brand of the company.  (I am shown at 2:17)

Living Healthy in Summerville Vendors share their goods with the Summerville, South Carolina community on Saturday, November 19th on 200 South Main Street. Summerville Farmer's Market allows those that seek fresh produce and other products to fulfill their needs in the heart of downtown Summerville. Summerville resident Kia Plumer says, "At Summerville's farmer's market it's a pretty ecliptic collection of vendors really centered around fresh fruits and vegetables, but it doesn’t mean that the majority of the vendors. There are lots of little stands and crafts and homemade items that you can buy." George's Pumpkin Bread offers samples to those attending Summerville's Famer's Market and uses the profits made from his stand to donate to Cancer Research. South Carolina State Students     "Make A Treat" In Annie B. Williams Hall, a traditional dormitory on South Carolina State University campus , Community Assistants held a program titled, "Make A Treat". The event is constructed to teach the ladies living in the dorm how to make Rice Krispy Treats in their room without the use of an oven or stove. This program also encouraged the ladies to build bonds with each other, which would encourage improvement in their interaction and communication skills. Freshmen Keiana White and Niyah Davis share their personal experience with the program. Niyah Davis says, "Hello my name is Niyah Davis and today I made some rice Krispy treats with my RA,my roommate, and my suitemate. We took some Rice Krispy Treat cereal and added butter and marshmallows.Then we put the mixture in the microwave." As the colder months approach new fashion trends are more likely to appear on campus. Students in the South Carolina area have been known for bundling up in their boots and jackets while heading to class and other events, but some may ask, what fashion trend does winter have in store for the students this year ? According to Claflin University Junior, Joyla Cobin, "Cardigans !", is what she'll most likely be wearing around this time of year . Joyla Cobin also says," I think wearing an all denim outift is going to be the next trend for the upcoming winter. That’s one of the outfits I like to wear around campus." Fashion trends are not always a local trend in the Orangeburg areas as Todd Shepard Jr. ,Senior at Clemson University ,says that because he is originally from New York that the weather in South Carolina is not that cold to him. He continues to say that he will  try something new this year and that this Winter season he will be sporting a trench coat

The annual Coastal Carolina Fair has returned to North Charleston, South Carolina. Families swarm Ladson fair grounds to enjoy food, rides, and concerts. During the week gates open at 3:00 p.m and close at 9:00 p.m ,and 10:00 p.m on the weekends.  The lines for rides such as Crazy Mouse, Fireball,Chaos, are fairly short, however, as night approaches the lines begin to grow.  Not all rides are suitable for young children and there are set height requirements for those who intend to enjoy these rides. No need to worry, those that are not eligible to ride high speed rides due to height requirement and other conditions, are able to find attractions that may suite their needs, included crazy houses filled with mirrors and fun gadgets.  While walking around fair grounds, the smell of funnel cake fills the air as guest indulge on sweet treats, pizza, and turkey legs. Dodging through traffic as early as 8 o' clock in the morning may not be listed as a fun activity, but here at South Carolina State University students living in Campus Corner and University Village view it as normal daily task. Students and community members will be one step closer to relief as a Department of Transportation worker says, the span of the pedestrian bridge will be laid down Friday night . Although, this task seems to be a major part of the building process traffic will remain flowing on Chestnut Street. Save Save
